Police in Kirinyaga have arrested three suspects linked to a violent robbery in Ngong, recovering a firearm, a motorcycle believed to have been used in the crime, and clothing tied to the attack. The arrests followed a coordinated operation by security teams acting on intelligence after the suspects reportedly went into hiding.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations said the joint operation brought together officers from Ngong Police Station, the DCI, and Mwea–Makutano Police Post. The team raided the Makutano–Ngomongo area in Kirinyaga County, where the suspects were found.

The three, identified as Alex Wanjiku alias Aleko, Job Wachira Wanjohi, and Francis Kinyanjui Wanjiku alias Kinyaa, were arrested at around 0104 hours. Police said the operation was swift and carefully planned following receipt of intelligence on their whereabouts.

Authorities believe the trio is behind a violent robbery that took place in Ngong on March 12, 2025, during which a victim was shot and left with serious injuries.

During the arrest, officers found Francis Kinyanjui Wanjiku in possession of a Glock 17 pistol loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition, “further cementing the suspects’ link to the violent crime,” according to police.

Investigators also seized a red TVS motorcycle with registration number KMGD 970K, which is suspected to have been used as a getaway vehicle. In addition, clothing believed to have been worn during the robbery was recovered, providing key evidence for the ongoing case.

The suspects are currently being held at Ngong Police Station as investigations continue. Authorities are also working to establish whether they may be linked to other criminal incidents in the region.

Police described the operation as a success, noting that it reflects the “unwavering commitment of security agencies to protect the public and bring perpetrators of violent crime to justice,”

They also called on members of the public to continue sharing information that could help in tackling crime. Citizens can report anonymously through the #FichuaKwaDCI hotline at 0800 722 203 or via WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.

The operation highlights the impact of joint, intelligence-led policing efforts in addressing violent crime and improving safety in Kirinyaga and nearby areas.
